Meet the Team

Sunny West

Owner/Personal Trainer

I was born and raised in South Florida. I moved here in 2009 and had my second child in 2010. Having never worked out a day in my life I decided to give the gym thing a try! Roughly two years later I became a certified personal trainer and not longer after opened Island Fitness.

My job is to teach you the function of each muscle, exercise technique and how to progress. I preach the main lifts, consistency, moderation and quality over quantity. Strength training is my passion! Strong mentally and physically is my goal for you. I am so grateful to work within this community and I am always here to answer any question you may have.

Camille Harvey, M.S.

Personal Trainer

Camille Harvey is a new addition to the Island Fitness family as a personal trainer. She and her husband relocated to Corpus Christi from West Virginia in December of 2021. Camille’s love and respect for exercise can be credited to her mother who bought her first membership at a fitness center when she was 16 years old. That sparked Camille’s interest in the wellness industry, and for the past 28 years she has worked within the realms of physical education, physical activity, and wellness education. Personally, she has worked in fitness centers as a personal trainer and group exercise instructor, participated in power lifting meets, and ran marathons. Professionally, Camille has served as the Wellness Education professor at Marshall University, served as the Assistant Director of a federal physical activity grant for West Virginia schools, and served as the Director of West Virginia’s Physical Activity Plan.
Camille has a Master’s Degree in Physical Education Teacher Education and completed doctoral level coursework and research in Kinesiology from West Virginia University. Camille promotes the five health-related components of physical fitness: body composition, flexibility, muscular strength, muscular endurance, and cardio respiratory endurance. You may contact Camille at 304-619-6795 for more information and to set up an appointment for personal training.

My approach to encourage people to exercise is to provide exercises that are safe, effective, and fun. Plus, there is a modification for every exercise, so everyone can participate. I enjoy working in my classes in teaching exercises to maintain and increase fitness levels for each person. It is my goal to encourage everyone to make exercise a part of their lifestyle in order to maintain a healthier mind and body.

I am AFAA certified and have been a group certified instructor for over 25 years.

A little bit about my career. When I was a public-school teacher, our school nurse was instrumental in getting a grant for physical fitness and I helped form a walking group and step group for our teachers. One of the physicians wanted a class for diabetics who had desk jobs and needed to exercise. So, another instructor and I taught classes at the hospital to get these bodies stimulated. I worked on the island when Spohn hospital had classes in their facility for several years, the Naval Air Station and the YMCA. I have been with the Island Fitness since the beginning, A great place to exercise and work.

My own journey to finding a healthy lifestyle has given me insight into the many challenges one encounters. This enables me to bring a high level of empathy, respect, and understanding.

Experience allows me to guide you in finding a yoga practice that best suits YOUR needs. Yoga is the practice of connecting the mind, body and breath while moving through different postures. Let me guide you through this practice and take an hour for self care and self love. Self care is not selfish.

I received my 200 hour YTT Certification December 2017 and then my 540 hour YTT Certification April 2019 through Aura Wellness Center. In addition I earned my Meditation Teacher Certification in August 2018 through Aura Wellness Center.

At the age of four, my passion for fitness originated while doing fitness videos at home with my mom. As a young girl, I took traditional dance classes and ran cross country and track. During college, I began long distance running and ran several half marathons and one full marathon. After graduating, I taught third grade then began working at a women’s gym in Tempe, Arizona after the school year ended. There I pursued my passion for fitness by becoming a fitness class instructor, an assistant group fitness coordinator, and a fitness video principal for Christi Taylor. I immediately knew I had found my calling in helping others to become fit and confident. In October of 2011, I returned to my hometown of San Antonio, Texas where I continued to pursue my career in fitness as a personal trainer, fitness instructor, and general manager of a women’s gym. I made Corpus Christi my home at the end of 2015 and am excited to continue my personal training and fitness instruction career.
I believe that every person deserves an opportunity to live a healthy and confident life. A healthy life consists of not just a strong, lean body gained through proper nutrition, strength training, and cardiovascular exercise, but also a sound mind and spirit. My mission is to build the pathways for individuals to make beneficial changes in their lives and to facilitate their overall well-being. Let’s begin your journey toward lasting wellness today!
